“1-6 God, investigate my life;
get all the facts firsthand.
I’m an open book to you;
even from a distance, you know what I’m thinking.
You know when I leave and when I get back;
I’m never out of your sight.
You know everything I’m going to say
before I start the first sentence.
I look behind me and you’re there,
then up ahead and you’re there, too—
your reassuring presence, coming and going.
This is too much, too wonderful—
I can’t take it all in!
Psalm 139: 1-6 MSG – A verse of the day from the Bible presented in Eugene Peterson’s contemporary version called The Message. Accompanied by a personal reflection below.
There’s a strange thrill that comes from knowing that you could be loved so much in that your every step, your words, and even your thoughts might be known by another. That you would be so important to someone that they would carefully make note of every little thing that makes you who you are, and to think that person is there for you day in and day out. Perhaps it is a parent, a friend, a spouse, or a child in your life that is the one with whom you have a relationship like this. Now, imagine the God of the universe taking an interest in you like this! David says it best: “This is much, too wonderful — I can’t take it all in!” May it be that you and I take a moment to consider how great a privilege this is!

Psalm 139 is one of my very favorite psalm. I like the whole psalm but I have memorized only first 14 verses and recite them almost every day. These words are a great comfort for me. You have described it beautifully. Mom
Thank you Mom. It is a beautiful Psalm, indeed. I will also try to memorize it.
