May 2, Daniel 3:17-18

“17If you throw us in the fire, the God we serve can rescue us from your roaring furnace and anything else you might cook up, O king. 18 But even if he doesn’t, it wouldn’t make a bit of difference, O king. We still wouldn’t serve your gods or worship the gold statue you set up.”

Daniel 3:17-18 MSG – A verse of the day from the Bible presented in Eugene Peterson’s contemporary version called The Message. Accompanied by a personal reflection below.

So, this is with reference to the story of the three young men, Daniel’s friends, who are thrown into the furnace because they refuse to worship the gold statue of the land.  It takes a certain deep-seated faith and fortitude to portray true grit in the face of death, and these three men are a fine example of it.  Where do you stand, gentle reader?  Were you to face persecution for your faith, would you be willing to stand your ground?  I know I would.
