May 11, Psalm 94:18-19

“Who stood up for me against the wicked? Who took my side against evil workers? If God hadn’t been there for me, I never would have made it. The minute I said, “I’m slipping, I’m falling,” your love, God, took hold and held me fast. When I was upset and beside myself, you calmed me down and cheered me up.”

Psalm 94:18-19 MSG – A verse of the day from the Bible presented in Eugene Peterson’s contemporary version called The Message. Accompanied by a personal reflection below.

So, what strikes you most about this set of verses?  What about this monologue of David strikes you the most?  For me, it is the fact that David cites God’s LOVE to be the thing that keeps him from slipping and falling.  Not God’s strength, faithfulness, courage, fortitude, grace, mercies, or any of the very many other spectacular attributes that makes God omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent.  Nay, it is God’s love that the Psalmist cites to be the one thing that keeps him from slipping and falling!  Here’s hoping THAT is the very motivation and reason to keep from slipping and falling for you and me too!
