“And now, the Master, God, sends me and his Spirit with this Message from God, your Redeemer, The Holy of Israel: “I am God , your God, who teaches you how to live right and well. I show you what to do, where to go. If you had listened all along to what I told you, your life would have flowed full like a river, blessings rolling in like waves from the sea. Children and grandchildren are like sand, your progeny like grains of sand. There would be no end of them, no danger of losing touch with me.”
Isaiah 48:17 MSG – A verse of the day from the Bible presented in Eugene Peterson’s contemporary version called The Message. Accompanied by a personal reflection below.
Isaiah, the prophet, served as God’s mouthpiece to the children of Israel, and much of the advice is good even to this day to both Jews and non-Jews alike. If anything, reading these prophecies is affirmation of the great love, goodness, protection, provision, and promise of the Almighty God to the people that He had made a covenant with. And if you think all this is quite generous, think again about how overwhelmingly generous this God is in the new covenant that was made with the entire human race: the covenant sealed in the sacrifice of Jesus that resulted in the gift of life eternal to every person who believes. How does that strike you? I hope that you give it some thought today.
