May 9, Micah 7:18-19

18 Where is the god who can compare with you – wiping the slate clean of guilt, Turning a blind eye, a deaf ear, to the past sins of your purged and precious people? You don’t nurse your anger and don’t stay angry long, for mercy is your specialty. That’s what you love most. 19And compassion is on its way to us. You’ll stamp out our wrongdoing. You’ll sink our sins to the bottom of the ocean.

Micah 7:18-19 MSG – A verse of the day from the Bible presented in Eugene Peterson’s contemporary version called The Message. Accompanied by a personal reflection below.

This is a most amazing God, people!  I hope that you have had a taste of Him, the way the prophet Micah is describing this God.  Who does this, after all?  Who turns a blind eye and a deaf ear to all your foolishness?  Who doesn’t nurse one’s anger and stay angry with you for all your stupidity?  Who affords you mercy in this measure? Who has compassion upon you in the way that this God does?  If your answer is: no one, you are correct.  More reason to stand back and ponder in wonderment at how great and gracious this God is.
