March 13, Romans 8:28

“Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God’s Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don’t know how or what to pray, it doesn’t matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans. He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God. That’s why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good.”

Romans 8:28 MSG – A verse of the day from the Bible presented in Eugene Peterson’s contemporary version called The Message. Accompanied by a personal reflection below.

How spectacular is that — in our broken, uncertain, confused, careless, and random state of mind and being, when we don’t even know how to pray or what to pray about — we have an intercessor praying for us on our behalf!  That is the role of the Holy Spirit, the third entity of the perfect Trinity.  Believer, do not despair when you cannot do what you must, despite your every best intention.  Rest assured, that the Holy Spirit is uplifting you in prayer and “keeps us present before God.”  And rest assured also, that “every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good.”
