May 8, John 16:24

“This is what I want you to do: Ask the Father for whatever is in keeping with the things I’ve revealed to you. Ask in my name, according to my will, and he’ll most certainly give it to you. Your joy will be a river overflowing its banks!”

John 16:24 MSG – A verse of the day from the Bible presented in Eugene Peterson’s contemporary version called The Message. Accompanied by a personal reflection below.

I guess the key to receiving what you ask for is to ask for that which is “in keeping with the things” that God has already revealed to you.  And so, that begs the question: are you aware of what God has revealed to you?  If not, perhaps you ought to work on that piece before you go asking for this and that, don’t you think?  Because it looks like this business of petitioning God is tied up quite significantly to being aligned with God’s Word and God’s revelations to you.  Here’s hoping that you and I are focused more on being properly aligned than in asking for things.

May 7, Revelation 1:8

“The Master declares, “I’m A to Z. I’m The God Who Is, The God Who Was, and The God About to Arrive. I’m the Sovereign-Strong.”

Revelation 1:8 MSG – A verse of the day from the Bible presented in Eugene Peterson’s contemporary version called The Message. Accompanied by a personal reflection below.

So you like things nice and clear, do you?  Shorn of subtlety and rigamarole?  Well, here you have it:  here is the Almighty God telling you just who he is.  How’s that for a calling card?  For a self-introduction.  So, take note, gentle reader.  This is no beating-around-the-bush kinda talk.  Nay, this is God making it quite clear as to who he is.  Are you taking note?
