I’m so taken with Paul’s style of exhortation to his protegé, Timothy. Such encouraging and motivating words! Using the imagery of a runner — full of youth, virility, strength, and speed — Paul urges Timothy to be a spiritual runner as well. He’s reminding Timothy — and by extension, the reader, that this was a personal choice that was made to embrace the Christian life, and so, it now behooves us to live that life.
