May 27, I Timothy 6:12

“But you, Timothy, man of God: Run for your life from all this. Pursue a righteous life—a life of wonder, faith, love, steadiness, courtesy. Run hard and fast in the faith. Seize the eternal life, the life you were called to, the life you so fervently embraced in the presence of so many witnesses.”

1 Timothy 6:12 MSG – A verse of the day from the Bible presented in Eugene Peterson’s contemporary version called The Message. Accompanied by a personal reflection below.

I’m so taken with Paul’s style of exhortation to his protegé, Timothy.  Such encouraging and motivating words!  Using the imagery of a runner — full of youth, virility, strength, and speed — Paul urges Timothy to be a spiritual runner as well.  He’s reminding Timothy — and by extension, the reader, that this was a personal choice that was made to embrace the Christian life, and so, it now behooves us to live that life.  Are you doing that, Believer?
