April 27, 2 Corinthians 3:17

“Whenever, though, they turn to face God as Moses did, God removes the veil and there they are—face-to-face! They suddenly recognize that God is a living, personal presence, not a piece of chiseled stone. And when God is personally present, a living Spirit, that old, constricting legislation is recognized as obsolete. We’re free of it! All of us! Nothing between us and God, our faces shining with the brightness of his face. And so we are transfigured much like the Messiah, our lives gradually becoming brighter and more beautiful as God enters our lives and we become like him.”

2 Corinthians 3:17 MSG – A verse of the day from the Bible presented in Eugene Peterson’s contemporary version called The Message. Accompanied by a personal reflection below.

This is no mere laying of eyes on the face of God, nay, it is a transformation — a transfiguration, if you will — that occurs when we do lift our eyes to meet His face. The way that Paul is describing it, there is a sudden recognition of what it is that we are seeing — it is akin to the lifting of a veil, and there you have it: you are face-to-face in the presence of God.  Imagine that!  Expand your vision in your mind’s eye, won’t you, and perhaps you’ll understand what Paul is getting at.  It may be the face of a loved one, a stranger, or even an enemy in which you see the face of God.  Be aware, be open, be willing to allow God to reveal himself to you today.

April 26, Proverbs 16:9

“We plan the way we want to live, but only God makes us able to live it.”

Proverbs 16:9 MSG – A verse of the day from the Bible presented in Eugene Peterson’s contemporary version called The Message. Accompanied by a personal reflection below.

So, you have great ideas and plans for how you wish to live your life, do you?  And perhaps you’re even succeeding in living it the way you wish.  But here’s hoping you have some humility to attribute your success to the Almighty.  Because were it not for the magnanimity and generosity of the omnipotent and omniscient One, we wouldn’t really stand a chance!
