April 7, Acts 20:35

“I’ve never, as you so well know, had any taste for wealth or fashion. With these bare hands I took care of my own basic needs and those who worked with me. In everything I’ve done, I have demonstrated to you how necessary it is to work on behalf of the weak and not exploit them. You’ll not likely go wrong here if you keep remembering that our Master said, ‘You’re far happier giving than getting.’”

Acts 20:35 MSGA verse of the day from the Bible presented in Eugene Peterson’s contemporary version called The Message. Accompanied by a personal reflection below.

Giving, giving, giving.  Therein lies true joy.  It may be a thing, a thought, a word, or anything else of some value either to yourself or to your recipient.  Many a time it may be the gift of yourself — your time, your eyes, your ears, your mind, your heart.  But it is in giving to another that true joy and blessing is to be had.  Paul is telling his friends and believers in his travels this beautiful truth, and is reminding them that Jesus himself has exhorted them in this way.  May this be a timely reminder to us today as well.

April 6, Psalm 27:4

“I’m asking God for one thing, only one thing: To live with him in his house my whole life long. I’ll contemplate his beauty; I’ll study at his feet.”

Psalm 27:4 MSG – A verse of the day from the Bible presented in Eugene Peterson’s contemporary version called The Message. Accompanied by a personal reflection below.

It is indeed fascinating to learn of the Psalmist’s great love for the Almighty.  This is not some bland and dry announcement of love, nay, it is a passionate and vehement declaration of adoration.  And since one lifetime isn’t enough, the Psalmist wishes for an eternity to live with Him, contemplating His beauty.  Can you do that?  Could you possibly get in that zone where you think you might have perhaps a fraction of such a passion for God? Make it real, won’t you, think of God as the greatest lover of your life — for life.

April 5, John 11:25-26

“You don’t have to wait for the End. I am, right now, Resurrection and Life. The one who believes in me, even though he or she dies, will live. And everyone who lives believing in me does not ultimately die at all. Do you believe this?”

John 11:25-26 MSG – A verse of the day from the Bible presented in Eugene Peterson’s contemporary version called The Message. Accompanied by a personal reflection below.

Do you believe this?  Jesus is asking you and me:  do you believe what I’m saying, viz., that I am the Resurrection and Life.  Ponder on this question, won’t you?  Because if you do, you are a believer, my friend, and your faith will hold you in good stead through this lifetime and into the next.  On this Easter Sunday, I hope and trust you will give thought to the meaning of Christ’s love, life, death, resurrection, and promise to you.
