December 29, Isaiah 40:31

“Why would you ever complain, O Jacob, or, whine, Israel, saying, “ God has lost track of me. He doesn’t care what happens to me”? Don’t you know anything? Haven’t you been listening? God doesn’t come and go. God lasts. He’s Creator of all you can see or imagine. He doesn’t get tired out, doesn’t pause to catch his breath. And he knows everything, inside and out. He energizes those who get tired, gives fresh strength to dropouts. For even young people tire and drop out, young folk in their prime stumble and fall. But those who wait upon God get fresh strength. They spread their wings and soar like eagles, They run and don’t get tired, they walk and don’t lag behind.”

Isaiah 40:31 MSG – A verse of the day from the Bible presented in Eugene Peterson’s contemporary version called The Message. Accompanied by a personal reflection below.

This verse must rival every other verse in the Bible that is a promise and a source of comfort to the reader.  So, if you are indeed a believer, claim this promise for yourself!

December 28, Isaiah 41:10

““But you, Israel, are my servant. You’re Jacob, my first choice, descendants of my good friend Abraham. I pulled you in from all over the world, called you in from every dark corner of the earth, Telling you, ‘You’re my servant, serving on my side. I’ve picked you. I haven’t dropped you.’ Don’t panic. I’m with you. There’s no need to fear for I’m your God. I’ll give you strength. I’ll help you. I’ll hold you steady, keep a firm grip on you.”

Isaiah 41:10 MSG – A verse of the day from the Bible presented in Eugene Peterson’s contemporary version called The Message. Accompanied by a personal reflection below.

Words of comfort, consolation, encouragement, and promise.  Israel is the beneficiary of these words, and yet, I wish to claim them for myself as well.  “I haven’t dropped you… I’m with you.”  Who among us wouldn’t wish to be reassured with such words?  May it be that the God of Israel is yours as well.

December 27, Matthew 28:19

“Jesus, undeterred, went right ahead and gave his charge: “God authorized and commanded me to commission you: Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Then instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you. I’ll be with you as you do this, day after day after day, right up to the end of the age.”

Matthew 28:19 MSG – A verse of the day from the Bible presented in Eugene Peterson’s contemporary version called The Message. Accompanied by a personal reflection below.

This is the Great Commission:  go out into the world and preach the good news!  This is not something you want to keep to yourself; rather, you want to share it with as many as you can throughout the course of your lifetime.  And the promise that Jesus has to the believer is a simple and straightforward one:  you are not alone in this endeavor, no, Jesus himself is with you even as you share this good news with one and all.  Are you willing to take up this great commission?
