December 8, Hebrews 9:28

“Everyone has to die once, then face the consequences. Christ’s death was also a one-time event, but it was a sacrifice that took care of sins forever. And so, when he next appears, the outcome for those eager to greet him is, precisely, salvation.”

Hebrews 9:28 MSG – A verse of the day from the Bible presented in Eugene Peterson’s contemporary version called The Message. Accompanied by a personal reflection below.

The concept of Christ’s death being a sacrifice and an atonement for the sin of mankind is not one that may be understood by the head but by the heart.  Because for those who believe, this is the crux of the Christian faith.  And the believer also believes in Christ’s second coming.  Christmas, of course, marks the first coming.
