  1. Chicago’s northeast side? That’d be somewhere out on Lake Michigan. 😁

    1. Oooops! I was a little unsure myself when I wrote that! What should I have said?

      1. Chicagoans are just strange because they don’t call any part of the city east side or the northeast side (though they will say southeast side for that area around the big steel bridge you took a picture of). But technically every city should have a northeast quadrant – just divide the city into fourths and the one in the northeast corner should be the northeast side! It makes sense but Chicagoans don’t do that. The east side and the northeast side are considered in Lake Michigan. I don’t know exactly where you were but I’m assuming Devon Avenue. People would simply call that the north side.

        1. I see. So, there’s only north, south, southeast, and west?

          1. They also say northwest and southwest.

          2. Wow. So they say everything except northeast.

          3. And east. They don’t say northeast or east. It’s weird.

  2. And there are certain neighborhoods like Near North, River North, Lower West Side, etc.

    1. Well, given all this, I think they oughta call it northeast. 😱

  3. There was even a movement for a while to start calling that area just north of Millennium Park “the East Side.” But it never took off, it just died. Chicagoans believe the east side is just the lake.
