The genealogical records continue. It is truly fascinating to read these long lists of names generation by generation, especially when you come across a name that you might recognize such as Joshua or Saul, to see which of the twelve tribes they descended from, and sometimes, what region in the area their families had inhabited.
In the meantime, we continue with Paul’s story. After years of imprisonment in the Middle East, Paul is being shipped off to Rome to plead his case with Caesar. The account of the sea voyage is also quite a fascinating one as we learn of all the challenges the ship’s captain and crew encounter on the high seas.
Turning now to our reading of the psalms, we find David being his usual candid self: he pours his heart out to God in seeking help. Also, he pauses to carefully state what he considers the fate of the evildoers will be. David says this:
14 Whoever is pregnant with evil
conceives trouble and gives birth to disillusionment.
15 Whoever digs a hole and scoops it out
falls into the pit they have made.
16 The trouble they cause recoils on them;
their violence comes down on their own heads.
He closes out the psalm, with these words of praise, as always:
17 I will give thanks to the LORD because of his righteousness;
I will sing the praises of the name of the LORD Most High.
Finally, a lovely proverb by King Solomon, the wise king of Israel, who has these words of wisdom to every man fortunate to have a good wife:
22 He who finds a wife finds what is good
and receives favor from the LORD.
