February 24, Galatians 6:2

“Live creatively, friends. If someone falls into sin, forgivingly restore him, saving your critical comments for yourself. You might be needing forgiveness before the day’s out. Stoop down and reach out to those who are oppressed. Share their burdens, and so complete Christ’s law. If you think you are too good for that, you are badly deceived.

Galatians 6:2 MSG A verse of the day from the Bible presented in Eugene Peterson’s contemporary version called The Message. Accompanied by a personal reflection below.

Such a thoughtful exhortation, this is!  Save those critical comments for yourself, won’t you, because they’re really not needed, you see.  Besides, has it not occurred to you that you yourself “might be needing forgiveness before the day’s out?”  I need reminding of this every single day.  And Paul is also saying something else here — it’s not just being nice for the sake of being nice, you see, it’s being nice so as to “complete Christ’s law.”  This is how the believer is expected to live.  Day in and day out, we forgive one another even as Christ as forgiven us.
