“The heart is hopelessly dark and deceitful, a puzzle that no one can figure out. But I, God, search the heart and examine the mind. I get to the heart of the human. I get to the root of things. I treat them as they really are, not as they pretend to be.”
This is God himself offering an analysis of the human heart. And he thinks the human heart is “hopelessly dark and deceitful.” Not a stellar commentary on the state of human beings. And yet, this is a God that doesn’t just write us off. To think that God himself would deign to analyze, examine, search, consider, and still choose to pursue us, love us, accept us, and draw us close to himself is an incomprehensible thought. Does that not strike you as amazing?
