January 4, 2015, Matthew 22:37-38

“Jesus said, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence.’ This is the most important, the first on any list. But there is a second to set alongside it: ‘Love others as well as you love yourself.’ These two commands are pegs; everything in God’s Law and the Prophets hangs from them.””

Matthew 22:37-38 MSG A verse of the day from the Bible presented in Eugene Peterson’s contemporary version called The Message. Accompanied by a personal reflection below.

Passion, prayer, and intelligence.  Let us use these tools to love God, as commanded by Jesus.  And equally important to loving God is loving your fellow-man.  Love God and love your neighbor.  It may so be at times that in loving your neighbor, you love God.  But not necessarily vice versa.  I hope and trust in this new year that we are able to do both with equal gusto.
