On the southeast-side of my backyard, there is a lilac bush that was planted nine years ago by my husband and me. We’d actually planted a magnolia tree there, but a year later we discovered it wasn’t in a mood to take to that particular spot, and we eventually realized it had definitely died. So, what to do? Well, we called the nursery and told them we had the receipt to the tree and could they still honor their one-year guarantee and let us pick out another one? Sure, they said, come on over.
And so, we went back, hoping that this time around we’d find another nice magnolia, perhaps a stronger one that would take root. But when we got there, we found ourselves looking at some other plants and trees, and before long we were picking up this little lilac bush… Well, long story short, we picked it up, brought it home, planted it, and the rest as they say, is history!
So, here’s to my lilac bush this Spring. Nine years, and going strong still. Look at it– shameless, don’t you think? I mean, in how glorious it is with its blooms! And if you could only smell the fragrace that it exudes, you’d be transported into another world, just like that.
Well, here’s to my lovely lilac bush, today. I’m terribly proud and privileged to witness this sight year after year, but even more so this year, because I have captured these lovely images to share with you, and also for posterities sake.
May it be that this one show will go on for many years to come! Check out the pictures below.

Wow, this is blooming so well. We may not have seen this in bloom all these nine years. Can’t remember. It is beautiful though.
Thanks, Mom and Dad for finding this post! It is very beautiful and it blooms late April through mid-May every year– you might not have been visiting at that time…
