Were the title of this movie "The Weaning of Cyrus", is would be a dead-giveaway to its fundamental theme, viz. the mother-and-son dynamic, and the funny-creepy relationship between the two that results in some serious deceit, introspection and dialogue to eventually bring about the aforementioned weaning of son from mother– then allowing her to pursue her own life interests which include predominantly the romantic relationship with John.
