June 12, Titus 2:11-12

“God’s readiness to give and forgive is now public. Salvation’s available for everyone! We’re being shown how to turn our backs on a godless, indulgent life, and how to take on a God-filled, God-honoring life. This new life is starting right now, and is whetting our appetites for the glorious day when our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, appears. He offered himself as a sacrifice to free us from a dark, rebellious life into this good, pure life, making us a people he can be proud of, energetic in goodness.”

Titus 2:11-12 MSGA verse of the day from the Bible presented in Eugene Peterson’s contemporary version called The Message. Accompanied by a personal reflection below.

So, we can try — even if we don’t succeed.  To give and forgive, that is.  Actually, there are times when I think we shouldn’t even try because it is not in our nature to forgive in full.  Our concept of forgiveness pales so greatly in comparison to God’s forgiveness that it is almost insulting to even make the comparison.  But for whatever it is worth, perhaps we ought to keep trying over the course of a lifetime to give and forgive just as God has done for us.  May it be that the work of the Holy Spirit within the life of the Christ-follower, a.k.a., the believer, will allow us to achieve at least a small measure of these superhuman, nay, divine qualities.
