June 9, Colossians 4:-6

“Use your heads as you live and work among outsiders. Don’t miss a trick. Make the most of every opportunity. Be gracious in your speech. The goal is to bring out the best in others in a conversation, not put them down, not cut them out.”

Colossians 4:5-6 MSG – A verse of the day from the Bible presented in Eugene Peterson’s contemporary version called The Message. Accompanied by a personal reflection below.

Being a Christ-believer is not about becoming smug in the knowledge of your new-found confidence in your salvation.  Nay, it is about living a life full of Christ himself.  It is about being smart and hardworking; being nimble and quick; being gracious and good; being the one who uplifts another with one’s speech, “not put them down, not cut them out.”  That is Paul’s advice to the early Christians in Greece.  I think it would do each of us well to take it to heart as well.
