“Compassion hurts.” – A Self-Portrait

I stand in awe, wonderment, and amazement at this post which has so many different aspects that one may focus on and appreciate — everything from the visual beauty of the artwork, to the craftiness of creating it, to the intentional use or lack of detail, to the quote that is attached to it, and last and the very most of all: the narrative that explains your thought process and perspectives of the various media and reflections on the connections drawn between the art and the quote.

I am so very deeply moved by your sensitivity and your ability to share so openly and intentionally. Thank you for making me think and feel. It is indeed a challenge to balance the two: to love the beauty of life whilst being able to deal with its horrors as well. May it be that we consciously do both and are thereby rendered the better for it.

God bless you! I love you.

January 2, 1 Corinthians 13:2

“If I speak God’s Word with power, revealing all his mysteries and making everything plain as day, and if I have faith that says to a mountain, “Jump,” and it jumps, but I don’t love, I’m nothing.”

1 Corinthians 13:2 MSGA verse of the day from the Bible presented in Eugene Peterson’s contemporary version called The Message. Accompanied by a personal reflection below.

This is such a powerful, profound, and phenomenal verse, it gives me chills.  Seriously, just look at it!  You may be a great preacher, teacher, interpreter, and speaker of God’s word, and you may be a warrior of great faith — the kind that moves mountains — mountains!  But if you don’t have love, you are NOTHING!  Are you with me, gentle reader?  Love trumps all.  And outlasts us all.  Make it your life’s purpose to put love above all else, won’t you?

January 1, Isaiah 43:19

“This is what God says, the God who builds a road right through the ocean, who carves a path through pounding waves, The God who summons horses and chariots and armies— they lie down and then can’t get up; they’re snuffed out like so many candles: “Forget about what’s happened; don’t keep going over old history. Be alert, be present. I’m about to do something brand-new. It’s bursting out! Don’t you see it? There it is! I’m making a road through the desert, rivers in the badlands. Wild animals will say ‘Thank you!’ —the coyotes and the buzzards— Because I provided water in the desert, rivers through the sun-baked earth, Drinking water for the people I chose, the people I made especially for myself, a people custom-made to praise me.”

Isaiah 43:19 MSG – A verse of the day from the Bible presented in Eugene Peterson’s contemporary version called The Message. Accompanied by a personal reflection below.

For everyone looking for a message of encouragement, here it is!  But take heed to leave the things of the past behind.  This is a new day and another opportunity to put your trust in a God who has great plans for you.  Prepare to expect great things!
