November 11, I Peter 1:8-9

“You never saw him, yet you love him. You still don’t see him, yet you trust him—with laughter and singing. Because you kept on believing, you’ll get what you’re looking forward to: total salvation.”

1 Peter 1:8-9 MSG – A verse of the day from the Bible presented in Eugene Peterson’s contemporary version called The Message. Accompanied by a personal reflection.

In a world where seeing is believing, the new Christ-followers were being told something so radical: to believe what they cannot see, and to keep at it, because therein lies faith.  To this day, that is the same approach every Christ-follower takes:  to believe without having seen, and to believe without the aid of an image or idol.  Complete faith and trust in the saving grace of the perfect sacrifice made by Christ – a gift for you and I, and for everyone who believes.
