Supertramp’s ‘Hide in your Shell’

  1. One of my all time favorites, Hide in Your Shell, from Roger Hodgson, co-founder and voice of Supertramp. I had the great privilege of seeing Roger in concert just yesterday in Milwaukee, WI. I am still on a “high” from that concert and can’t get it out of my mind. Brilliant does not come close. Roger’s voice is flawless and what a band! It was so wonderful to see my favorite artist perform the songs I have loved for years such as Give a Little Bit, The Logical Song, Dreamer, Take the Long Way Home, Breakfast in America, Fool’s Overture, and so many more! If you were or are a fan of Supertramp, do yourself a favor and see the singer/songwriter of their greatest hits, Roger Hodgson. I recently found out that although Roger and the other co-founder shared writing credit, they actually wrote and composed separately. This explains why I’ve skipped to Roger’s songs all these years. I can’t wait to see him again. See all tour details on Events at https://www.RogerHodgson.com/events.

  2. Just saw Roger and his band and orchestra in Milwaukee. First, the sound of this show was outstanding. Roger’s voice is as good, if not stronger, than ever. His musicianship, complemented by an outstanding band was impeccable and backed by the orchestra – I got chills. ..The second and almost more important point is that Roger engages with an audience
like no one I have seen. He is a gentleman in the true sense of the word and shares his past,
his hopes, and his dreams with the audience in an unselfish and empathetic manner that is a pleasure to experience. His show is a must see and the more intimate the venue the better.
When he sang Hide in Your Shell, I was not the only one in tears! Roger – you Rock! Check

  3. Hi Smriti, this is a wonderful song, thanks for sharing 🙂 All during my childhood, this song spoke to me in so many different ways, on many levels. I was (and still am a bit – :o) very sensitive, shy, sheltered and introverted. This song paralleled my life with everyone I knew telling me to “come out of my shell”, and with this song it felt that Roger was reaching his hand and heart out to me, for the first time letting me know I wasn’t alone.

I can’t even begin to express the deepest feelings I get when I hear Roger perform this live – all the welled up emotions and past experiences just came flowing out, it moves me each and every time. His many songs tend to have that effect… just the way he performs from the depths of his own heart and soul, reaching our very own hearts and souls, in such a personal and intimate venue – it’s truly special. Smriti, I hope you or any of your readers get the chance to see him live someday. It will stay with you forever, as it has for me… 🙂

  4. There are so many options of songs that transport you to different time in your life……. It’s so hard to pick just one song, for many are poetry in motion….. There is something magical about “Hide in Your Shell”. Having had the pleasure of feeling this song performed four nights in a row with an orchestra, in Milwaukee, moved me tears. Roger sings from his soul, inviting you into his world. But I so love many of Roger’s songs… “Give a Little Bit, Take the Long Way Home”, Dreamer…” You hear the first note from Roger Hodgson’s guitar and you stop, feel the goosebumps as you are transported to a different time in your life. I have heard this song live where it sounds more amazing. Travels to Snoqualmie Casino, Snoqualmie, Washington, July 3rd, I so want to be there!!!

Roger is in the mist of his 2014 tour: http://rogerhodgson.com/documents/tour.html

Go, travel…. you will feel the magic for yourself.

  5. This song is iconic. A comfortable friend to so many. My favorite quote comes from this song. “Grab on to what you can scramble for.” Isn’t that amazing advice! Words to live by. Roger’s ability to reach in to our Shells and pull us out is phenomenal. It’s not just this song he does that with. Almost everything he’s ever produced has some amazing insight into the human soul and psyche. He is an incredible artist but until you see him live, you haven’t truly experienced his music or the magic that is a Roger.
