They're Really That Old!

One month and one day / That’s how old these flowers are / Strong and beautiful!

Note on picture:  This vase of fresh flowers (Japanese chrysanthemums and regular ‘mums) sits on my kitchen table.  These flowers were bought on February 18th, exactly one month and one day ago.  There were a few more of the same that began to wilt and wither, and those were taken out.  These were transferred to a smaller vase with fresh water, a spoonful of sugar, and the stalks cut off an inch at an angle.  Look at them:  they look like I just got them today!  And I daresay they’ll last another week at least, if not longer!  Now, that’s haiku-worthy, indeed!

What Does 'S' Stand For?

S is for Simmi / And Sunder, her sweet husband / And the Sheraton!

Note on picture:  This is a cool hologram on the floor of the lobby of the Gunter Sheraton in San Antonio, Texas where we spent a holiday recently.  To walk in and see this lovely S beckoning you inside to the reception desk was quite a nice way to be greeted!

Who's The Fairest Of Us All?

Mirror on the wall / Your beauty surpasses those / Who gaze into you!

Note on picture: A most exquisite mirror that I found in San Antonio, Texas on a recent touristy visit.  Handmade in Mexico, across the border, it was one of a kind that I couldn’t help but pick up (and pay a handsome price for!), and bring home with me on a 5-hour plane trip.  This lovely mirror adds to my small but growing collection of mirrors from around the world.  It has found a place in our living-room, reflections of which may be seen from within the mirror itself.

From Tibet Via New Delhi With Love

Beautiful choker / Handmade by the Tibetans / You adorn my wall!

Note on picture: This is a piece of exquisite beaded art and turquoise stones that I picked up on one of my visits to Delhi many years ago.  It is folk-art made by Tibetans, a large refugee population of which lives in and around Delhi and they have small shops that carry curios such as these in the shops lined up on Janpath.  Originally designed to be a choker or a necklace, I think, but I had other ideas on how I wished to display it!

Blue Sun for a Blue Planet

I found a blue sun / Made in Mexico, they said / Brilliant hues of blue!

Note on picture:  An exquisite piece of pottery hand-painted in the most brilliant colors of blue made by artisans across the border in Mexico.  The colors are so vibrant in every shade of blue you feel they will rub off on you if you touch the sun!  Incidentally, I collect masks from everywhere, and although this is not a mask, it is a face– a face of the sun, and therefore, it will find a home among the rest of my mask collection and will remain forever a prized souvenir from my trip to the lovely city of San Antonio, Texas.

This is only one piece photographed multiple times and made into a collage.

My lunch in Japan / My dinner in Mexico / My cake — Italy!

Note:  A collage of treats for a birthday lunch, birthday dinner, and birthday cake — from the Far East to the Far West with a stop on the Continent in the middle for the sweetest part!  All in a days’ work right here in the Midwest.

Papads, We Love You!

We went on a binge / An appalam binge, that is / a.k.a., Papads!

Note on picture:  This is one of the most common sights on our kitchen table at least three times a week just before dinner (with aperitifs), and the remainder if any, during dinner itself!

Deep Elem Blues

Deepelemblues

Those Deep Elem Blues / Aren’t only a song, you know / They’re pieces of art!

Note on picture and slideshow above:  My blue pottery collection, one of a kind.  Each piece a bona fide find!

And the Grateful Dead’s famous Deep Elem Blues song, another all-time favorite, is right here:

And the absolutely incredible lyrics, in case you’re wondering, are:

If You Go Down To Deep Elem Put Your Money In Your Shoes
The Women In Deep Elem They Give You The Deep Elem Blues

Oh, sweet Mama, Your Daddy’s Got Them Deep Elem Blues

Once I Had A Girlfriend, She Meant The World To Me
She Went Down To Deep Elem, Now She Ain’t What She Used To Be

Once I Knew A Preacher, Preached The Bible Thru And Thru
He Went Down To Deep Elem, Now His Preaching Days Are Thru

When You Go Down To Deep Elem To Have A Little Fun,
Have Your Ten Dollars Ready When The Police Man Comes

When you go down to Deep Elem put your money in your pants
Cause the women in Deep Elem they don’t give a man a chance

Oh, Sweet Mama, Your Daddy’s Got Them Deep Elem Blues.
