February 20, Psalm 119:2

“You’re blessed when you stay on course, walking steadily on the road revealed by God. You’re blessed when you follow his directions, doing your best to find him. That’s right—you don’t go off on your own; you walk straight along the road he set. You, God, prescribed the right way to live; now you expect us to live it. Oh, that my steps might be steady, keeping to the course you set; Then I’d never have any regrets in comparing my life with your counsel. I thank you for speaking straight from your heart; I learn the pattern of your righteous ways. I’m going to do what you tell me to do; don’t ever walk off and leave me.”

Psalm 119:2 MSG – A verse of the day from the Bible presented in Eugene Peterson’s contemporary version called The Message. Accompanied by a personal reflection below.

David, the psalmist, is talking to himself here — he’s psyching himself to stay on course.  And that’s how you do it folks:  you talk yourself into walking “straight along the road he set.”  But you always beseech God to help you walk the walk.  You cannot do it yourself.  There is comfort in this knowledge.  And greater comfort in the truth that God is with you every step of the way.

February 19, Proverbs 16:3

Put God in charge of your work, then what you’ve planned will take place.

Proverbs 16:3 MSG – A verse of the day from the Bible presented in Eugene Peterson’s contemporary version called The Message. Accompanied by a personal reflection below.

Can you do that? Putting God in charge of your work.  What does that even mean?  I think it might mean being in a place that is in total surrender and submission to the sovereign will of God.  To seeking out in prayer God’s will and purpose for your life, your project, your problem, your whatever.  To beseeching him for guidance and support in your plans.  To believing that God’s cares about every detail. And to being open and receptive to everything that might come your way even as you go about in your planning.
