The agave tree at the Matthei Botanical Gardens in Ann Arbor, Michigan is blooming at present. It is said that the agave tree blooms only once every 90-100 years, so this is undoubtedly quite the event to be seen. Also, it apparently dies after it blooms.
We did just that a couple weeks ago, and it was remarkable to see how rapidly the tree is growing – apparently 6 inches a day – which is why they have had to open up the glass-tiled roof in order to let it grow!
Some pictures from our trip there that includes other lovely flora and cacti.
