What a lovely tribute to her parents! Check out this piece by Monica Bhide, a food writer of Indian origin who tells of the influence her parents on her own cooking, and how she wishes to continue the legacy.
Two-Faced Resolutions – Courtesy Janus
Apparently the tradition of New Year’s resolutions goes all the way back to Babylonian times. It’s said that Julius Caesar started the tradition of making resolutions on January 1st as a way to honor the Roman mythical god Janus, whose two faces allowed him to look back into the past year and forward to the new year.

Time For A Change
The Human Seasons
John Keats
Four Seasons fill the measure of the year;
There are four seasons in the mind of man:
He has his lusty Spring, when fancy clear
Takes in all beauty with an easy span:
He has his Summer, when luxuriously
Spring’s honied cud of youthful thought he loves
To ruminate, and by such dreaming high
Is nearest unto heaven: quiet coves
His soul has in its Autumn, when his wings
He furleth close; contented so to look
On mists in idleness–to let fair things
Pass by unheeded as a threshold brook.
He has his Winter too of pale misfeature,
Or else he would forego his mortal nature.
Train Oneself
It is salutary to train oneself to be no more affected by censure than by praise.
– William Somerset Maugham (1874-1965) English Novelist, Playwright
The Best Dishes of 2010 (in NYC restaurants)
Well, this list is exclusive to NYC restaurants. But if you were to compile a similar list from Simmi’s Kitchen ( http://foodspotting.com/sdisaac ), you’d be hard-pressed to stop at only 10. 🙂
Another Brick In The Wall
A big thank-you to my buddy, Melanie Ryan who sent me a full recording of this concert that she attended in NYC’s Madison Square Garden of Roger Waters’ Another Brick In The Wall concert on 10/5/2010.
