The Expendables, 2010

Expendables

Everyone's looking very buff and macho, but yet another forgettable action-movie of the summer.

Deep Elem Blues

Deepelemblues

Those Deep Elem Blues / Aren’t only a song, you know / They’re pieces of art!

Note on picture and slideshow above:  My blue pottery collection, one of a kind.  Each piece a bona fide find!

And the Grateful Dead’s famous Deep Elem Blues song, another all-time favorite, is right here:

And the absolutely incredible lyrics, in case you’re wondering, are:

If You Go Down To Deep Elem Put Your Money In Your Shoes
The Women In Deep Elem They Give You The Deep Elem Blues

Oh, sweet Mama, Your Daddy’s Got Them Deep Elem Blues

Once I Had A Girlfriend, She Meant The World To Me
She Went Down To Deep Elem, Now She Ain’t What She Used To Be

Once I Knew A Preacher, Preached The Bible Thru And Thru
He Went Down To Deep Elem, Now His Preaching Days Are Thru

When You Go Down To Deep Elem To Have A Little Fun,
Have Your Ten Dollars Ready When The Police Man Comes

When you go down to Deep Elem put your money in your pants
Cause the women in Deep Elem they don’t give a man a chance

Oh, Sweet Mama, Your Daddy’s Got Them Deep Elem Blues.

Detroit International Jazz Festival rated one of the top four jazz festivals

Media_httpdetroitjazz_ubdem

How very cool a statistic is THAT?! I’ll have to mark my calendar for this summer! (I’ve been to the Detroit Jazz Fest only once before, so it’s time I did it again!

Surreal Sunrise In Swiss Villages

Media_httpimagesnatio_knhdi

This is altogether surreal indeed. I guess I must not have been paying attention when I was visiting such small villages on my whirlwind trip through Europe some summers ago, which included beautiful destinations such as this one in Switzerland.

Grownups, 2010

Grownups-movie-review

Disappointing, despite a great line-up of actors/comedians.

Uninspired script and very forgettable all in all.

Salt, 2010

Salt

She’s Bourne, Bond and Macgyver all rolled into one, and even without any of the action itself, if only looks could burn, well, you’d be a cinder.

Salt’s Jolie plays the role with such confidence and intensity that you wonder why they didn’t make this sooner.  There’s enough thrills, mystery, suspense and unexpected twists to the end to make the story stick.  For being as independent and fierce as she is, Salt’s every action from beginning to end is either determined or motivated by her love for her loving and gentle husband.

But in the final analysis, it’s a love-story, people!  That is, if you can see beyond all that dare-devil action.  And yes, of course, I predict she’ll be back!
