June 24, Proverbs 22:4

“The payoff for meekness and Fear-of- God is plenty and honor and a satisfying life.”

Proverbs 22:4 MSGA verse of the day from the Bible presented in Eugene Peterson’s contemporary version called The Message. Accompanied by a personal reflection below.

Humility and love of God are the two recommendations that Solomon is making here.  I said love of God, by the way.  Here’s hoping you reap that payoff, gentle reader!

  1. Oh! I had to read that three or four times before I got it. Well done, gentle writer. Excellent point.

    1. You’re right in that the translation by Mr. Petersen is somewhat unclear at first, and I think I had to read it a couple times myself. Unless you are referring to my reflection on the verse — which might actually be even more ambiguous, and for that I am sorry! On another note, thank you for your title in addressing me; it is lovely that the thought is reciprocated!

      1. I was complimenting your reflection on the verse! You say it plainly but it caught me off guard and it took me a few times to understand what I was reading; subtle and effective.
