Phonecalls, e-mails, text messages, and e-cards. I’ve been flooded with love coming through all these many channels all day long, and I am most humbled and most thrilled by it all. But these are two birthday greetings that I received the old-fashioned way: through the U.S. postal service that arrived a day in advance so I could open them today. They’re called “birthday cards”— sent by two of the most important people in my life: my dear parents and my sweet mother-in-law.
